Mayor Shoemaker
Mayor Haven N. Shoemaker, Jr.

Haven Shoemaker is a Hampstead attorney who received his BA from the University of Maryland Baltimore County and his law degree (Magna Cum Laude) from the Widener University School of Law. Mayor Shoemaker served in the Army National Guard as an infantryman.  He and his wife, Patricia, have one son and reside on Glouster Circle. Haven is a member of the Westminster Baptist Church, Hampstead Lions Club, Carroll County Bar Association, Hampstead Business Association and the Westminster Elks. He has served as President of the Carroll County Chapter of the Maryland Municipal League and remains a member of the Carroll County Economic Development Commission.  This is his second term as the Mayor of Hampstead.  During the past six years, he has presided over the funding and construction of the Hampstead Bypass, the restoration of the historic Hampstead School into affordable senior housing and the development of Hampstead Municipal Park.  Mayor Shoemaker's top priority for the remainder of his second term are keeping our property tax rate one of the lowest in the state, promoting local businesses and ensuring that our municipal infrastructure is sound.  His term expires in May of 2011.

Councilman Christopher M. Nevin

Chris Nevin served as Mayor of Hampstead from 1995 to 2003. He and his wife, Joyce, have four children and have lived in Hampstead since 1989. Chris is Vice President and Manager of Provident Bank of Maryland in the Commercial Real Estate Lending Department. He is active in the North Carroll Recreation Council where he serves as a basketball coach. His term expires in May of 2011.

 

 

Wayne Thomas

Councilman Wayne H. Thomas

Wayne Thomas has served on the Town Council since 1993. He graduated from the University of Maryland College Park in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science.   He owns Hope Funding Services, a Hampstead business.   Wayne first moved to Hampstead in 1991 and now lives at 1100 Main Street with his wife Nora Ward. He has served on the Hampstead Planning Commission, as Vice President of the Town Council, liaison to the Hampstead Business Association, and as a representative to the Carroll County Economic Development Commission. Wayne is the President of the Hampstead Train Station Committee, Inc and President of the Hampstead Business Association.   In 2007 he chaired the Main Street Committee, which updated the Main Street Revitalization Plan.  Wayne continues to work for the economic development of Hampstead, funding of the Main Street Revitalization, expansion of Hampstead’s recreational facilities, and to keep Hampstead a great place to live.

 

Councilman Joe Zynel

Joe Zynel was elected to the Council in May 2007.  Joe was born and raised in Bel Air, MD.  He graduated from Bel Air High School in 1983.  He attended and graduated from the University of Maryland at College Park with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics.  While at the University of Maryland he was a founder and member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.  He also served as the financial director for Student Entertainment Enterprise. 

Joe has worked in the insurance industry since 1988.  He is the owner of Zynel Adjusting Inc., a property adjusting firm, located in Hampstead, MD.  

The Zynel family have been residents of Hampstead since 2003.  Joe has served the Town of Hampstead on the Main Street Revitalization Committee and the Board of Zoning Appeals.  He also served on the campaign of Haven Shoemaker for Delegate. Joe’s oversight responsibilities include water services and the Council of Governments.  His term expires in 2011.


Councilman Jamey Ayers

Jamey and his fiancée, Jessica, have a daughter Addison and reside in Small Crossings on Creswell Terrace. He has served on the Board of Zoning Appeals for the past two years. He was born and raised in Hampstead and has deep family roots dating back several generations; his late grandmother, Mary Alice Lare, was the first woman to serve on the Hampstead Town Council. His term expires in 2013.

 

Councilwoman Marlene Duff

Marlene, her husband Tim, and their three girls have lived in Hampstead since 1998. She has been employed in the Roberts Field Shopping Center for five years, and has been active in the Roberts Field Homeowners Association, holding the position of Treasurer.  Her term expires in 2013.
