Councilman Jamey Ayers
jamey_ayers@hotmail.com
Jamey was born and raised
in Hampstead and has deep family roots dating back several
generations; his late grandmother, Mary Alice Lare, was the first
woman to serve on the Hampstead Town Council. He currently resides in
Small Crossings on Creswell Terrace with his son and daughter. Jamey
graduated
McDaniel
College with a
double major in Business Administration and Economics coupled with an
Accounting minor. Being very civic minded he keeps active in the
community by being associated with several organizations. Prior to
being elected he has served on the Board of Zoning Appeals from 2007
to 2009. His term expires in May 2013.
Councilman
Tim Babylon
councilmanbabylon@hotmail.comTim is very proud to
run alongside Chris & Jason in our local Town election. He
cites fiscal responsibility as a main priority and
wholeheartedly supports Mayor Nevin’s pledge not to raise local
taxes. He also reflects on his time living in the Columbia area
as a reason for seeking office. After seeing firsthand what
uncontrolled growth and unchecked regulations can do to ruin a
pleasant rural area, he does not want to see Hampstead head
down a similar path. He believes the key to success is
intelligent long term planning with a focus on job development
and infrastructure. Finally, he wants to help restore and
revitalize Hampstead’s Main Street area into a destination for
shoppers and diners. He is very pleased to see several local
businesses recently set up shop on Main Street. He would like
to see this trend continue and wants to work closely with the
local Main Street Merchants to help ensure their success.
Tim’s professional career began at
Black & Decker in their Hampstead location as a customer
contact representative dealing with product recalls. He worked
for Black & Decker in several locations around the country in
steadily rising positions of responsibility before returning to
Maryland to pursue a career requiring less travel. This change
resulted in Tim accepting a job in the pharmaceutical industry
and in early 2004, purchasing a house in the Roberts Field
neighborhood. Tim now works as a Practice Manager for Sinai
Lifebridge Health in Baltimore.
Tim was born and raised in Manchester
and graduated from North Carroll High School in 1994. He
attended York College of Pennsylvania where he received a
Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Law in 1998. During
college he was an active lacrosse and water polo player. He
also worked in WVYC college radio as an on-air personality, was
a member of the Student and Academic Senates as well as the
Senior Honor Society. He was placed in the 1998 edition of
Who’s Who Among Students in Colleges and Universities.
Tim has been a political activist for
more than two decades and got his start while supporting Linda
Chavez in 1986. He most recently worked as a campaign director
for Michelle Jefferson in Carroll’s 2010 District 3
Commissioner race. He was also proud to support the campaigns
of Haven Shoemaker, Justin Ready, Doug Mathias & Nancy
Stocksdale.
In his spare time, Tim enjoys relaxing
at home with his beautiful fiancée Crystal who works long hours
as an addictions counselor and full time student. They enjoy
the company of their ridiculously puffy dog Gypsy and assorted
lap cats. Whenever he has the time, Tim enjoys grabbing food
and drink with friends at Dean’s restaurant, his favorite local
restaurant.
His term expires in May 2015.
Jason lives in Roberts
Field with his wife Megan and two young children. He moved to
Hampstead in 2009 from Hereford where he lived briefly after
getting married. Although relatively new to Town limits, Jason grew
up just over the county line inside the Hampstead zip code on Black
Rock Road. He has been around politics his entire life and is the
son of local businessman Chris Cavey. Over the years the Cavey’s
have operated a number of businesses in Town from Cavey Insurance
to Eagle Embroidery and the Hampstead Video store. Jason was
involved in the operation of these family businesses and as a
result is very familiar with our Town.
He took an interest in
Town politics soon after moving into Town and began attending
Council Meetings shortly after. Jason believes the Town needs to
tighten its belt when it comes to spending and the budget just as
many of us struggle in the current recessionary environment. Given
Jason’s background in local business, he understands the hard work
and determination that is needed to run a business. Jason aims to
carry these values into his position on the Town Council with the
aim of helping the local businesses be successful, which in turn
maintains Hampstead’s small town charm. Jason also serves as the
Vice President of the Council.
Jason currently works as
an IT Infrastructure Consultant for The Cornerstone Professional
Group and is a partner of Doogle Design, LLC, a local web design
and hosting company. He enjoys everything technical and computer
related. He also plans to lend his expertise in internet design to
helping our Town improve its web presence and communication.
Jason graduated from
Hereford High School in 2002 and then from West Virginia Wesleyan
College in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer
Science, and was president of the Kappa Tau Chapter of The Theta Xi
Fraternity.
His term expires in May 2015.
Councilwoman
Marlene Duff
hampstead@carr.org
Marlene was elected to the Town Council in May 2009. She lives in
Roberts’ Field with her husband, daughters and a very
high-maintenance Jack Russell Terrier named Max.
Marlene served as Council Liaison on the Planning and Zoning
Commission from 2009-2011. Since May, 2011, her area of Council
oversight has been the Hampstead Farmers’ Market. Marlene and
Sharon Callahan, Market Coordinator, serve on the Advisory Team of
the Hampstead Farmers’ Market. Responsibilities include
identifying new Market vendors, fielding inquiries from prospective
vendors, logistical setup of the Market grounds, working with local
news outlets to publicize the Market, preparing promotional
materials, and generally overseeing the Market’s smooth operation
each Saturday morning from June through September.
Marlene works part-time as a data entry assistant at 95.1 SHINE-FM
radio in Baltimore. In her “spare” time, she attends HBA, Main
Street Merchant’s, Roberts’ Field HOA and MML meetings.
Her four-year term expires May, 2013.

Councilman
Wayne H. Thomas
Wayne Thomas has served on the Town Council since 1993. He
graduated from the University of Maryland College Park in 1983 with
a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science. He
owns Hope Funding Services, a Hampstead business. Wayne
first moved to Hampstead in 1991 and now lives at 1100 Main Street
with his wife Nora Ward. He has served on the Hampstead Planning
Commission, as Vice President of the Town Council, liaison to the
Hampstead Business Association, and as a representative to the
Carroll County Economic Development Commission. Wayne is the
President of the Hampstead Train Station Committee, Inc and
President of the Hampstead Business Association. In
2007 he chaired the Main Street Committee, which updated the Main
Street Revitalization Plan. Wayne continues to work for the
economic development of Hampstead, funding of the Main Street
Revitalization, expansion of Hampstead’s recreational facilities,
and to keep Hampstead a great place to live.
His
term expires in May 2013.
